Dear brothers and sisters of our great community, it is with great honour I am addressing you as the President of our community to wish you and your families a happy new year 2021.
As 2020 went with its unprecedented events and uncertainties around the world with the Covid-19 pandemic and Brexit, we should welcome 2021 with hope, courage and determination to succeed.
Aware of these unprecedented circumstances and its impact on our community and our families, your Board members managed to secure a grant of £10000 from the Central Government and Community Lottery Funds to assist almost everyone and most specifically those in serious need of support and assistance.
With these funds, we have planned and started to deliver foods parcels door to door to nearly 100 families in our community every month since November, organised prayer sessions via zoom and there were plenty activities planned for December we could not deliver due to circumstances beyond our control but we will make it up to you and deliver these between January and February 2021.
During 2020, our Association accomplished quite remarkably many activities despite COVID-19 restrictions:
-We organised and hosted virtually Guinea’s 62nd Independence Celebration with great success
-We raised funds to support community members affected by Covid-19 and other health issues.
-We successfully secured a sanitary evacuation of one our brother who is seriously ill (Daouda Camara) with all expenses included.
-We provided £750 worth of gifts vouchers to the most vulnerable families in our community
For 2021 we are planning:
-To deliver more food parcels with culturally appropriate food and essential items to more families
-To organise Zoom sessions to raise awareness around COVID-19 and related issues which may have an impact on our community
-To secure more funds to assist families and other community projects.
Dear brothers and sisters, your board members believe this is the time to stay kind and focus on building a strong community! We are honoured and humbled to be your leaders.
I am sure like me; you are hoping for brighter days ahead and I do believe there’s lots to look forward to in 2021. For now, though and until we can be together again please stay safe and follow the guidelines.
On behalf of all GSGM Board members, I wish you and your families Happy New Year 2021.
With love and best wishes.
Your humble servant, President Isaac Diallo
